(Este episodio especial está enteramente en inglés) (This episode is entirely in English with a brief intro in Spanish) How was it like growing up under the oppresive regime that took power in Iran in 1979? What dangers have been facing the citizens who want to fight back and live in freedom? Why did most universities in the western world (along human rights NGOs) seal an alliance with one of the worst authocratic regimes in the world, a theocracy were women live under a real apartheid? We invited Siavash Safavi (@SedSia in X), a young Iranian born in a home in Teheran that was targeted due to his parents' political participation in the Sha's government. Later on he was arrested and tortured by the Ayatollah's repressive state apparatus because of his activitism as a student. Siavash shared his own personal story along with bits of Iran's and Islam's history with his unique sense of humor, bringing anecdotes of how contacting and meeting Jews helped him change the idea he had about them and Israel. He also reconstructs his not-so-soft landing (traumatic in his words) in a progressive Canadian university where he expected to find freedom of thought and found out it was quite the opposite. This conversation was recorded on February 12th, 2024.
